The problem
Job seekers in Ethiopia and East Africa often send one generic CV to every employer. Tailoring a CV by hand for each vacancy takes hours, and tools that use AI to do it tend to invent skills and experience, which can cost a candidate the job at interview. Many employers also filter applications with software that cannot read decorative CV layouts. Most CV tools are built for other markets, take payment by international card, and do not handle Amharic.
What I built
Zemed keeps one master profile per person, filled in by hand or imported from an existing CV with AI. When the person pastes a job ad, the AI rewrites the CV for that role, then a second pass checks every line against the profile and removes any claim it cannot support. The person reviews each change side by side before accepting it, so the AI never overwrites their CV silently. Projects can be pulled from GitHub, and the one that best matches the job is chosen for each CV. Exports are single-column, ATS-safe PDFs, and a checker runs on the exact PDF being downloaded to confirm the text is readable, the contact details come first and the length is sensible. Amharic text renders through a bundled font. The home screen adds a free job-fit check and an applications board. Payment is built for Chapa so users can pay with Telebirr, CBE Birr or bank transfer after five free CVs, and it switches on by adding environment variables.
The outcome
In an evaluation script kept in the repo, a plain prompt produced 97 to 100 invented claims across three test profiles. The same profiles through the fact-checked pipeline produced none. The judge in that test is from the same model family as the writer, so a human-reviewed set is still needed. The server has 18 automated tests and the web app 23, and the production build passes. Zemed has not launched yet: the Chapa payment flow has been tested against a mock, not live payments, and there are no user numbers to report.
